Inaba—a quiet town in rural Japan sets the scene for budding adolescence in Persona 4 Golden.
A coming of age story that sets the protagonist and his friends on a journey kickstarted by a chain of serial murders. Explore meeting kindred spirits, feelings of belonging, and even confronting the darker sides of one’s self.
i finished persona 4 golden around the beginning of summer and it was such a rewarding experience. in hindsight, i really didn't experience enough of the game (i didn't do a lot of social links...) but despite that, i really did enjoy it.
p4g was the first persona game i ever played and completed, after multiple attempts years ago to play p3p on my old psp. i think one of the main reasons i managed to get into p4g despite its slow start was... yosuke. of course. his inclusion in the game was enough to make it worth playing for me
the small cast and the gameplay really were the cherry on top though, alongside the murder mystery aspect. i've seen many people compare persona to danganronpa, which was one of the reasons i hoped to get into persona, but honestly i did not see the correlations whatsoever while i was playing p4, outside of the murder mystery and high school setting. i think the 3d elements and gameplay were really, really gorgeous and despite being obviously aged, they still felt timeless at the same time..? inaba has such a cozy atmosphere and the 3d models for each character were really pretty.
this was my first time playing a turn-based rpg outside of danganronpa ultimate summer camp, and it definitely sold me on the genre. the strategy aspect was really fun and i loved getting to dress up yosuke and make him cross dress while we fought shadows. um can you tell i love yosuke? i also found each individual plot with the shadow-versions of the mcs to be really cool. my favorites were probably naoto and chie. and the character designs? gorgeous, of course.
