Who is Nagito Komaeda?
nagito komaeda is a member of class 77-b of hope's peak academy and a participant of the killing school trip shown in super danganronpa 2: goodbye despair; he's also
featured in danganronpa another episode: ultra despair girls as a servant of the warriors of hope.
nagito is undoubtedly one of the most popular antagonists of the series, if not just one of the most popular characters- he's so charming and he's a white haired twink which is
enough to make anyone popular. anyways, about him. being a student of hope's peak academy, nagito's ultimate talent is that of the ultimate lucky student, making him the second and
last character in the series to have this particular ultimate, the first being makoto naegi. makoto naegi and nagito actually have the same voice actor and nagito's name is an anagram in japanese for
"i am makoto naegi" or "makoto naegi da". moving on. when hajime first meets nagito in danganronpa 2, he percieves him as a very friendly and kind guy, especially considering hajime has no memory of his
"ultimate talent". however, during the first class trial, it's made clear that nagito is in no way the guy all his classmates thought he was; he's insanely fixated on the idea of hope and despair and even
orchestrates the first murder for the sake of hope, planning on being killed by the culprit for the culprit's own hope.
this is a theme throughout all of nagito's appearances in the danganronpa series (at least in the games); he's willing to kill himself, be killed, or let others die all in the name of hope, because he believes
that the deeper the despair, the brighter the hope that overcomes it will be. in ultra despair girls, nagito even says he'll "become despair itself" just for the hope that will come when he's defeated.

i should preface this with the fact that I DO NOT YUME NAGITO! i think he's gay and i just support him and love him and think he's cute. anyways, i became obsessed with nagito
around early april 2025; i view him as the blueprint of all mysterious white haired boys in otoge and other vns, but mainly otoge despite danganronpa's place as a murder mystery and
its lack of any otoge elements. he's just incredibly weird and eccentric, he's really handsome, he's clearly gay, and he's kind of self deprecating and incredibly insane.
shikishima, shion, okazaki are all characters i heavily associate with nagito due to their equal eccentricities and white hair and mental illness (Well that only applies to shikishima)..

i've been a danganronpa fan since its 2020 revival but i never paid much if any attention to komaeda besides just thinking he's cute; i liked him in the dr3 anime but that was about it.
but around winter 2025 i was researching and looking more into his character while writing a kazuichi fic and i think that's what started it all for me, because now, with actual knowledge on his
character beyond him just being hajime's love interest, i was able to actually appreciate his character..? and then in april it all culminated in my obsession with him. i honestly really relate to how
he feels- like he's below everyone and worth being sacrificed due to how "untalented" and "worthless" his own talent is, and i also find it really cute. like in my opinion nagito is the ideal man
and i would love to be in a lavender marriage with him LOL anyways i'm just rambling at this point but.. yeah!

No matter how hard a penguin tries, there's no way it will ever soar through the sky...which means…unworthy humans will never become worthy, no matter what they do. people with talents dont become talented...they're just born with their abilities right from the start. That's right...just like you guys. That's why I have so much respect for you all. Ah, just so you know, what I feel is different from admiration. Admiration is...wishing you could be like the object of your admiration. But what I feel is not so self-serving. How should I put it? What I feel...more pure...more like a selfless love that wants nothing in return… so...i want you guys to believe me when I say… I dont mind if you kill me, but if that happens, I want you to let me help. I don't care if the killer survives, or if everyone but the killer survives. I just...want both sides to do their very best. I want to see with my own two eyes...the absolute hope that lies ahead. Yep, I'm really lucky! Someone as insignificant as me will be there when hope and despair collide, and unleash their energy. So please...let me help you...if your planning to kill me, I would be honored to help you carry out your plan. I want you to use me as a stepping stone so everyone can shine.
