tomura shigaraki
this is my shrine & digital memorial for my sweet, sweet boy, tomura shigaraki. mha spoilers ahead, though they're all pretty obvious and i've written about them a lot on my page already.
who is he?
tomura shigaraki is the main antagonist of my hero academia, otherwise known as tenko shimura (previously) and the symbol of fear (following season 7/the war arc). he's the leader of the league of villains and the paranormal liberation front, and my boyfriend. in the beginning of the series, he's eighteen years old, and a man child with little control of his emotions and little care for other's feelings and interests besides his own. he doesn't think things all the way through and lacks subtlety, preferring to get rid of things that bother him by killing them and lacking much of a real plan as a villain. his personality through the usj arc and season 2 of mha has been described in canon as a "two-bit punk" and not much of a threat, however, following the hero killer arc and his encounter at the mall with izuku, he became much more of a cunning, calculating villain.
tomura is the successor of all for one, having been raised by him since elementary school/since his quirk manifested. thus, he has a lot of respect for afo and calls him his "master" (eng dub) or "sensei" (jp). however, as we see once he and afo merge following the manifestation of afo's quirk(s) in his body, this desire of his to succeed his master was as vain and miscalculated as all his plans used to be, though, this time, through no fault of his own. having been groomed since his youth by afo to be the "perfect successor", he never realized afo didn't have tomura's best interests at heart. tomura dreamed of a world without heroes, but when that world was at his fingertips, he was so consumed by confusion and despair at the loss of his own self identity that he felt alienated from his own goal, his own consciousness no longer his alone.
besides his personality as a villain, tomura is a ridiculously human antagonist, spending his free time playing video games (adorable) and being somewhat of a neet/hikkikomori, with a really messy bedroom (which doesn't have a bed for some reason) decorated with newspaper clippings and figures. despite being a villain, he still has morals to an extent. in fanon, he's often portrayed as an incel and woman hater which i can understand, but in canon he's respectful to his allies and sees himself as a hero for villains. in fact, in a 4-koma, he refuses to play toga's husband in a play, because he thinks it's creepy. which is so sweet. he also holds a lot of compassion for his friends and values those close to him, most particularly his friend spinner, who was the only member of the league (that i know of) who he was welcoming to upon their joining. even during his death, tomura's last words were for spinner.
tomura also of course has a skin condition, likely a result of his body's incompatibility with his quirk. his skin itches and is very visibly dry and cracked, particularly on his neck and from his eyes and above. it gets worse when he feels anxious or angry, and is relieved/at ease following committing violent acts.
the hands seen in tomura's villain costume are the hands of his dead parents and sister and grandfather (i think..), which is really cute in my opinion.
tenko shimura
"he was supposed to fly"
tomura's name is actually tenko shimura, with the name tomura shigaraki being given to him by afo. tenko shimura was a much different boy than the one we see in mha, having dark black hair, but with the same skin condition. he had friends and admired heroes, though it's worth noting that his father, who despised heroes due to his own trauma, discouraged this and was abusive to tenko because of it. he was very fragile due to this abuse, but he was nonetheless still compassionate and kind. he cared for others, such as his friends, sister, and dog, mon-chan, and housed no hatred.
an incredibly important point about tenko is that his quirk was, in fact, not decay. while the manifestation of his decay quirk was what led to him becoming the symbol of fear and becoming afo's successor, that quirk was given to him by afo. instead, tenko was born with a quirk called "flying circle", which allowed him to generate rings that propelled him through the air. maybe now you see why i chose let down as the song for this page? this fact about him is not mentioned in the manga but was mentioned by horikoshi following the completion of mha. personally i don't fully believe this to be canon compliant, but it does make sense and also just makes tenko's backstory that much more sad.
tenko shimura's decay quirk manifested at age five (i think), when his father hit him. in the backyard of his house, he was holding his dog and sobbing, when suddenly his dog turned to dust in his arms. his sister went to find him, and he accidentally decayed her, too, and then his mom. however, the death of his father was not an accident, and was his first time murdering someone; and the first time the constant itching of his skin stopped.
following his self-induced orphaning, he was left to wander the streets, with no one ever trying to help him. he found himself crying in alley when all for one found him, and thus, he became tomura shigaraki.
why i love him
i don't even know where to start with my love for tomura. he's been my favorite character in mha since 2021, when i first watched mha, and is a character whom i love so deeply i can hardly see him as fictional anymore. i am a tomura yumejoshi...
for me, i find tomura to be the pinnacle of my own comphet type, if that makes sense. he's outwardly cold and uncaring, kind of disgusting, and similar to me in terms of hobbies and lifestyle (we're both video game nerds and hikkineets); i don't crave romantic intimacy from men, obviously, and i know tomura wouldn't give me that. i feel like together, we would live in mutual solitude, playing video games and eating cup noodles and buying figures together. i also just find his character, especially his lore, to be so compelling. he's incredibly well written and meant to be a villain you sympathize with, especially following the war arc.
i find his scratching of his neck to be so, so endearing, and every form of his is absolutely infatuating for me. idk if that's correct grammar. however, i most of all love blue haired, pre-awakening tomura, when he was a lazy man child who didn't really care about anything besides killing all might and deku.
transport, motorways, and tramlines; starting and then stopping; taking off and landing; emptiest of feelings; disappointed people, clinging on to bottles, and, when it comes, it's so, so disappointing
let down and hanging around; crushed like a bug in the ground; let down and hanging around; shell smashed, juices flowing, wings twitch, legs are going; don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel; one day i am gonna grow wings, a chemical reaction; hysterical and useless; hysterical and let down and hanging around; crushed like a bug in the ground; let down and hanging around
let down again, let down again, let down again... you know, you know where you are with; you know where you are with; floor collapsing, floating, bouncing back; and one day i am gonna grow wings, a chemical reaction (you know where you are), hysterical and useless (you know where you are), hysterical and (you know where you are), let down and hanging around crushed like a bug in the ground, let down and hanging around

even to the bitter end, tomura shigaraki fought to destroy.
